The state track and field meet saw a standout performance from Northampton’s Junior Rylee Coates, who delivered an impressive all-around showing, medaling in every event she entered and bringing home multiple state titles.

Coates opened her campaign in the 100-meter dash, qualifying with a strong 12.47 in the prelims before finishing 4th overall in the finals with a 12.73. She shined in the 100-meter hurdles, where she swept both rounds—clocking a 14.45 in the prelims and following up with a 14.68 in the finals to claim 1st place and a state championship.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Coates continued her busy weekend with a time of 48.17, placing 4th in a competitive field. Her field events were equally dominant: she took home 1st place in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 5 inches, and cleared 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to capture another state title. In the high jump, Coates added a silver medal to her haul with a 5-foot clearance.

Her remarkable performance earned her three state titles and medals in six events.

On the boys’ side, senior Elijah Hope competed in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking a 44.85 to place 11th overall in a tough field.

The boys’ relay teams finished 13th in the 4×100-meter relay team, posting a 45.24 time, while the 4×400-meter squad ran a 3:45.77 for 11th place overall.

In field events, Kendrick Collins made a strong showing in the triple jump, reaching 41 feet, 5.75 inches to earn 8th place and a top-10 state finish.
