Softball
The Chincoteague Lady Ponies softball team hosted Wi-Hi on Monday afternoon and won by a score of 11–1, improving to 8–7 on the season. Faith Stadler started on the mound and earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing one run on one hit, and striking out 11 batters.
Offensively, the Lady Ponies collected 13 hits. Stadler went 3-for-3 with three doubles. Ginny Sawyer went 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Carmela Rosanova went 2-for-3 with a double.
Chincoteague returns to action today as they travel to Northampton.
Baseball
The Arcadia Firebirds baseball team hosted Isle of Wight on Monday afternoon and fell by a score of 17–9. Dylan Chesser got the start and received a no-decision. Larry Handy pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief and took the loss, giving up 10 runs.
The Firebirds had six hits in the game. Dalton Barnes went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Chesser and Zach Giddins each added a double.
Arcadia drops to 7–7 on the season and will travel to Nandua today.
The Chincoteague Ponies baseball team also hosted Wi-Hi on Monday and narrowly lost 7–6. Travis Jillard got the start and took the loss, pitching two innings, allowing six runs on one hit, and striking out three.
The Ponies recorded five hits. Garrett Daisey went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Bryce Luck, Owen Bloxom, Kent Reed, and Travis Dillard each had one hit.
Chincoteague falls to 5–9–1 and will travel to Northampton this afternoon.
