Baseball
The Broadwater Vikings baseball team hosted the Chincoteague Ponies on Thursday afternoon and came away with an 11–1 victory. Eli Destro got the start on the mound and earned the win, pitching five innings, giving up one unearned run, and striking out 11 batters. Landon Easton took the loss for the Ponies.
Offensively, the Vikings recorded nine hits. Destro went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, while Aiden Fuller also went 2-for-4, adding a double. Chincoteague had five hits, led by Micah Benninoff, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
The Vikings improve to 4-4-1 and will return to action on Monday as they host Isle of Wight Academy. The Ponies fall to 3-3-1 and will next play on Monday at home against Snow Hill.
The Arcadia Firebirds baseball team hosted Westmoreland on Thursday and secured an 11–1 win. Dalton Barnes started on the mound and picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing one unearned run on no hits while striking out eight batters.
The Firebirds tallied seven hits. Zach Giddens and Brian White each had two hits. White recorded a triple, and Giddens had a double. Arcadia improves to 2-4 on the season and will face Norview on Tuesday.
The Nandua Warriors baseball team traveled to play Windsor on Thursday afternoon, where they lost a close game 2–0. Aiden McIntyre started on the mound and took the loss, pitching six innings and giving up two unearned runs on five hits while striking out 10 batters.
Offensively, the Warriors managed two hits—one each by Hayden Williams and Grayson Ford. Nandua falls to 4-3 and will return to action on Tuesday at home against Salisbury Christian.
Softball
The Broadwater Lady Vikings hosted the Chincoteague Lady Ponies on Thursday and won 10–0. Ramsey Revelle earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out 11 batters. Caitlyn McPherson took the loss for the Lady Ponies.
The Lady Vikings collected 15 hits. Kasey Ford went 3-for-4 with a double, Miranda Smith went 3-for-3 with a home run, and Revelle contributed by going 3-for-4. Chincoteague’s lone hit came from Julia Dunston.
Broadwater improves to 8-1 on the season and will return to action on Monday as they host Isle of Wight. The Lady Ponies fall to 2-3 and will next play at home against Snow Hill.
The Arcadia Lady Firebirds traveled to play Salisbury Christian on Thursday and claimed an 18–0 win. Ryann Giddens got the win, pitching five innings without allowing a hit and striking out 12 batters.
The Lady Firebirds recorded 17 hits. Giddens went 4-for-4 with a triple, Brinlee Kauthen went 3-for-4 with two triples, and Megan Montross went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Arcadia improves to 2-3 on the season and will return to action Tuesday with an away game at Southampton.
