Arcadia and Nandua sweep Chincoteague and Northampton in Thursday baseball and softball action

Softball

The Arcadia Lady Firebirds softball team traveled to play the Chincoteague Lady Ponies on Thursday afternoon and earned an 11–5 win. Ryann Giddins started on the mound for Arcadia and picked up the win, pitching five innings while allowing two runs on one hit and striking out 14 batters. Caitlyn McPherson started for the Ponies and took the loss.

Arcadia collected 14 hits in the game. Brinlee Kauthen went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Megan Montross went 3-for-4, and Giddins added a 2-for-4 performance. Chincoteague had a pair of hits, with Ginny Sawyer and Faith Stadler each recording one.

The Firebirds improve to 9–7 and will return to action Monday against Saints Peter and Paul. The Ponies fall to 9–8 and will travel to Nandua on Tuesday.

Preston Ford in Keller

The Nandua Lady Warriors hosted the Northampton Yellow Jackets and came away with a 14–4 win. Kylie Killmon started on the mound for Nandua and earned the win, pitching five innings while giving up four runs on six hits and striking out four. Anna Temich started and took the loss for Northampton.

The Lady Warriors had 10 hits in the game. Amirrah Church went 2-for-3 with a triple, Brianna Zavala went 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Tracy Selby went 2-for-3 with a double. The Yellow Jackets had six hits. Hailey Dinwiddie went 2-for-2 with a triple, and Ortavia Rogers also went 2-for-2.

Nandua improves to 5–6 and will host Salisbury Christian on Friday. Northampton falls to 3–11 and will host Mathews on Friday.

Baseball

The Arcadia Firebirds traveled to Chincoteague on Thursday afternoon and defeated the Ponies 14–4. Dylan Chesser started on the mound for Arcadia and earned the win, pitching 6 2/3 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out 10 batters. Landon Easton started for Chincoteague and took the loss.

Offensively, the Firebirds had 10 hits. Zach Giddens went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Dalton Barnes went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Larry Handy went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Bryce Luck and Micah Bennicoff each went 2-for-3 to lead the Ponies at the plate.

Arcadia improves to 9–7 and will travel to Lancaster on Saturday. Chincoteague falls to 6–10–1 and will visit Nandua on Tuesday.

The Nandua Warriors hosted the Northampton Yellow Jackets and won in extra innings by a score of 10–9, thanks to a walk-off home run by Aiden McIntyre.

Buchanan Subaru

Hayden Williams got the start for Nandua and pitched six innings, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out seven. Braeden Smith pitched in relief and picked up the win. Riley Carpenter started for the Yellow Jackets, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Porter Spence came in as relief and took the loss.

The Warriors tallied 10 hits. McIntyre went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double, while Jordan Snead went 2-for-5 with an RBI. The Yellow Jackets had six hits, led by Trent Ferebee and Corbin Etheridge, who each went 2-for-4. Etheridge drove in four runs.

Nandua improves to 8–7 and will host Salisbury Christian on Friday. Northampton falls to 1–11 and will host Mathews on Friday.
