Your December 10 edition includes an article titled “Local Entities Awarded Tourism Funds From Governor Younkin,” crediting our Republican governor and his administration with funding a large number of small business initiatives on the Eastern Shore. In fact, this funding did not come from Governor Younkin. His administration had the responsibility to direct where the funds should go. However, the article should have explained that funding actually was provided by the American Rescue Plan Act, a federal statute, which was enacted by Democrats and signed by President Biden in 2021 without receiving a single Republican vote in the House of Representatives. The Act provided money to state governments to award to deserving businesses that were harmed by the Covid pandemic.
