Chincoteague resident outlines why she's voting for Kamala Harris

We must think clearly about this decision. She beats her opponent on the issues and shows impressive intellect, guts, strength, and resolve commanding a character worthy of the Presidency. She is someone the world will respect.

My top concern is existential. The climate emergency affects every single person and is getting worse. Trump’s previous presidency rolled back progress causing damage that could have been mitigated if not for his failed policies. Bold climate action can’t wait for 2028.

Vice President Harris will lower taxes, cut food, energy, and prescription drug costs for millions of working Americans while helping businesses boost the economy so wages and opportunity increases for all. Under Mr. Trump the rich just get richer while the rest of us pay the bill.

Globally we must stop the spread of war in the Middle East. The attack on the Israel people last October 7th by Hamas was inexcusable and all hostages must be returned. The devastation of Gaza and the senseless deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians has been horrific. However, the destruction of Gaza was NOT a reasonable or proportional response. Former president Trump put no restraints on Benjamin Netanyahu encouraging his aggressive stance against the Palestinians.

The Trump presidency caused women to lose our fundamental rights to bodily autonomy and reproduction putting women’s lives at risk in 41 states across the US.

We need real solutions on immigration, not reactionary policies fueled by racism and bigotry. Ms. Harris would toughen enforcement while creating humane legal immigration pathways.

The GOP and former President Trump are trying to dismantle our government in favor of an authoritarian state modeled after dictatorships like Russia. His actions jeopardize the Constitution with broad sweeping increases in presidential power threatening our way of life & eroding personal freedoms of speech, the press, the electoral process, and legal rights.

Most of all, the former President broke his vow to uphold the Constitution by attempting to block the peaceful transition of power after he lost the 2020 election. A convicted felon, labeled a “threat to Democracy”, he represents the worse characteristics of humanity while Vice President Kamala Harris is a proven, competent world leader – thoughtful, firm, and fair.
