Governor Glenn Youngkin returned to the Eastern Shore on Wednesday evening to witness Rocket Lab’s latest Electron mission, “Don’t Be Such a Square,” launching from the Virginia Spaceport Authority’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island. The visit marked a follow-through on a pledge Youngkin and Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera Segura made during Segura’s November tour of Accomack County—both promised to return in December, and they did so for a milestone event.
Youngkin was joined by multiple cabinet members, including Secretary Segura, Secretary of Transportation Shep Miller, and other senior officials, underscoring the administration’s continued emphasis on growing Virginia’s aerospace sector. Wednesday’s flight marked the 10th Rocket Lab Electron launch from Virginia, all conducted during Youngkin’s tenure.
In remarks before and after liftoff, the Governor thanked the Virginia Spaceport Authority, Rocket Lab, and NASA teams for their work in elevating the Commonwealth’s role in commercial spaceflight and for inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. He credited collaboration across state agencies, the General Assembly, and federal and commercial partners for accelerating growth at the facility over the last four years.
Wallops Island continues to grow as one of the nation’s leading small-launch hubs, expanding opportunities for both Virginia’s space industry and the Eastern Shore communities that support it.
