Winter Storm Warnings issued for Eastern Shore

A Winter Storm Advisory has been updated to a Winter Storm Warning for the Eastern Shore beginning 7 pm Friday and ending at 1 pm EST Saturday.

The forecast predicts heavy mixed precipitation, with snow expected Friday night into Saturday morning before transitioning to rain. A widespread 2 to 3 inches of snow is likely along with a band of more significant accumulations of 4 to 6 inches is possible. The Shore is not expected to see any significant ice accumulation.

Snowfall is expected to begin late Friday evening in lower Northampton and move northward into northern Northampton and Accomack early Saturday morning. Snowfall rates will increase quickly as snow spreads east.

Broadwater Academy

Residents are urged to plan for slippery road conditions and exercise caution while traveling.

Following the snowfall, temperatures plummet once again into the teens and low 20s Saturday night with highs Sunday in the mid to upper 30s. Lows in the teens again Sunday night. Melting and refreezing is expected into early next week.
