If you’re heading out on the Eastern Shore today, you’ll want to bundle up — and hold on to your hat.
The National Weather Service has issued a double whammy of weather advisories for Accomack and Northampton counties.
A Wind Advisory goes into effect at one o’clock this afternoon. Expect northwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour. Officials warn these gusts could knock down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages.
Then, starting at seven tonight, a Cold Weather Advisory begins. Wind chills are expected to plummet to around five degrees by tomorrow morning.
If you have to be outside, dress in layers and cover exposed skin to prevent hypothermia. Drivers in high-profile vehicles should also use extra caution, as strong crosswinds may make travel difficult through Monday morning.
