Two longtime WESR air personalities were recently acknowledged by an association of international broadcasters for their efforts during the January blizzard.
Kelley Gaskill of 103 the Shore and Tom Parks of Coastal Country 105.7 received certificates of commendation from the International Broadcasters Idea Bank. The group includes small market radio and television operators from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The group promotes community broadcasting.
WESR’s Charlie Russell Russell had this to say. “Kelley and Tom worked tirelessly for three days to make sure Eastern Shore residents knew of road conditions, school closings, business and civic delays and cancellations, local road conditions including closed roads and much more. They left their homes and camped out at the station to make sure the needed information was provided.”
Russell has been a member of the International Broadcasters Idea Bank since 2002. The group shares information and ideas on things that can be done to provide services to local audiences and communities.
