The effects of Florence on weather here this weekend will depend on where you live.   There are small craft advisories posted on the Chesapeake Bay between Smith Point and Windmill Point. There are Tropical Storm warnings for the mouth of the bay including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel area.   Tropical Storm warnings are in effect for the seaside from Cape Charles to Machipongo Inlet. However, the tropical storm winds, over 39 mph will largely occur over water or at the seaside beaches.   The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel reported gusts to 47 mph. Thursday afternoon.

Away from the water, tropical storm force winds are not likely.   Winds are likely to blow between 15 and 22 mph. with occasional gusts between 30 and 35 mph.

Rain amounts could range from 1.5 inches to 4 inches depending on where you are with southern Northampton having the best chance of getting more rain. The farther north you go less rain will fall.

Although it’s unlikely anyone will go to the ocean beaches this weekend, rough surf warnings and strong rip currents will keep swimmers away.
