We have a weather alert for coastal areas in Maryland and Virginia.
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Thursday evening. A High Surf Advisory begins Wednesday at one p.m. and runs through Friday morning. And a Coastal Flood Watch will be in place from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon.
Here’s what that means:
-
Dangerous rip currents are expected.
-
Waves in the surf zone could reach ten to twelve feet high.
-
And some coastal flooding is possible, with water levels rising one to three feet above ground in low-lying areas.
Impacts include:
Flooded roads, property damage in vulnerable areas, and erosion along beaches and dunes.
If you’re heading out:
Allow extra travel time. Do not drive through water or around barricades. Protect property if it’s prone to flooding.
And most importantly—conditions will be extremely dangerous in the surf. If you’re not an experienced swimmer, stay out of the water.
