One of the Eastern Shore’s longest-running summer traditions returns this week as the Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company’s 72nd Annual Carnival gets underway Wednesday, June 17, and continues through July 4.

The carnival will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays during the event’s run and will be closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Organizers are inviting residents and visitors alike to enjoy live entertainment, contests, food, rides and family-friendly activities while supporting the volunteer fire company.

Opening night on June 17 will feature the Little Miss Carnival Queen, Little Mr. Carnival King, Miss Pre-Teen Carnival Queen and Miss Carnival Queen pageants, with music provided by DJ Terry Collins.

The entertainment lineup continues throughout the carnival with performances by several local and regional acts. The Rip Tide Band is scheduled for June 18, followed by the Fil Rhythm Band on June 19 and the Irie Tree Band on June 20. The second week will feature DJ Sleepy on June 24, the Accomack Community Band on June 25 and Southern Fog Band on June 26.
