In a bid to bolster its ranks, the Virginia State Police has launched a new recruitment website and social media campaign, going live on September 16, 2024. The initiative aims to attract prospective troopers ready to “Rise Above” and serve Virginia’s communities.
The new website, vatrooper.com, features high-definition graphics and mobile-friendly design, offering detailed information on becoming a state trooper, preparing for academy life, and the daily experiences of trainees. This effort comes as the department faces over 300 vacancies due to declining academy class sizes.
Colonel Gary T. Settle emphasized the importance of engaging potential recruits online, noting the prestigious nature of the state trooper title. Governor Glenn A. Youngkin highlighted the initiative as vital for public safety, aiming to enhance the state police’s presence on the roads.
Developed in partnership with EPIC Productions, a leader in law enforcement recruiting, the campaign seeks to showcase opportunities for those willing to serve and protect. Currently, 39 recruits are training in the 142nd Basic Session, with a second cohort set to begin in November 2024.
