Virginia Marine Police investigating waterman fatality on Tangier Island

The Virginia Marine Police are investigating a fatal incident that occurred on Tangier Island Monday.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Mr. Wayne Parks went to check on Mr. Dana Dise, a 71-year-old resident of Tangier Island, on behalf of Mr. Dise’s wife. Upon arriving at the dock, Mr. Parks observed Mr. Dise lying unresponsive in the water behind a vessel and called 911.

The Tangier Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and recovered Mr. Dise from the water. A local medic on the island confirmed that he was deceased at the scene.

Mr. Dise was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk. The cause of death is not known at this time.

The Virginia Marine Police are the lead agency in this investigation. No further details are available pending the outcome of the investigation and medical examination.
