A 20-year-old Cape Charles man has been identified as the person killed Monday evening in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Fairview Road, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities responded to the scene around 6:16 p.m. on March 24, in the area of 23348 Fairview Road, just south of Seaview Drive. Upon arrival, troopers found the male driver deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the rider, identified as Abelardo Gonzalez-Demers, of the 4200 block of Bluebird Road, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the motorcycle. The bike left the roadway and entered a ditch, throwing Gonzalez-Demers into a nearby light pole. He died at the scene.
The motorcycle was found to be unregistered and had an unidentifiable vehicle identification number (VIN). Investigators determined that speed was a contributing factor in the crash. It is currently unknown whether alcohol played a role.
State Police confirmed that next of kin have been notified. No further details are available at this time as the investigation continues.
