Virginia’s Secretary of Health and Human Services spent a full day on the Shore on Thursday. Secretary Daniel Carey began his day speaking to the assembled crowd of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs and Issues Breakfast at the Elks Lodge in Accomac.

He finished his day at the Northampton Department of Social Services where he met with and listened to reports from both Accomack County and Northampton County employees and representatives. Among the concerns put forth by speakers including Spencer Murray, who is on the Northampton Social Services Board, Reneta Major, who is an employee of Northampton Social Services, and Mozella Francis, included employee pay, the rising cost of health care, combating the opioid epidemic, and breaking the cycles of poverty.
