According to a story on, Tyson Foods has rejected a request by local environmental groups to strengthen it’s policies on wastewater coming from local chicken houses. Environmental Groups Mighty Earth and Shorekeeper attended Tyson Food’s corporate meeting in Arkansas last week. Local environmental activist Jay Ford asked the corporation to intensify its efforts to make sure runoff from local chicken farms does not degrade the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay.

Tysons replied that they already have more than adequate policies on wastewater run off from their chicken operations on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and throughout their operating areas and that any further regulations would be redundant.

The environmentalist groups claim that the large local broiler operations generate too much chicken manure and they claim that the runoff could put the local aquaculture industry in jeopardy.
