The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at the intersection of Spady Lane and Boundary Avenue in Onancock on July 8 that injured a local woman, Sheriff Todd Wessells said in a prepared statement Tuesday afternoon.
At about 7:40 p.m. that day, deputies were advised that the victim, a 27-year-old Painter woman, was being treated at the local hospital for her unspecified injuries. She was not publicly identified and was released from Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital later that night. Her condition was not disclosed.
At the scene of the shooting, deputies observed multiple cartridge casings in the road, Wessells stated. They also reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed multiple witnesses.
“Based on the evidence collected and witness statements, investigators determined that two masked individuals approached the area on foot and began firing in the direction of an occupied black Ford Crown Victoria, ultimately striking an occupant,” the sheriff said.
Anyone with information related to this incident or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 757-787-1131 or 757-824-5666.
