Leadership on the Accomack School Board went unchanged from last year Tuesday night when members appointed District 7 Member Janet Martin Turner, of Accomac, as chair and District 2 Member Edward Taylor, of Assawoman, as vice-chair. Both were selected for the posts in identical 5-4 votes.
The meeting was called to order by Interim Superintendent David Jeck, who presided over the nomination and chair selection. Voting for Turner were District 4 Member Glenn Neal, District 6 Member Jason Weippert, District 8 Member Stefanie Jackson, Taylor and Turner.
Opposing votes came from those who favored District 3 member Lisa Cropper Johnson for the position. They were District 1 Member Jesse Spiedel, District 5 Member Camesha Handy, District 9 Member Malcolm White and Johnson.
Jeck then passed the gavel to Turner, and Taylor was selected as vice-chair in identical votes, with Johnson again being nominated by Handy.
The only change in the selection process over last year was Spiedel’s vote. He no longer supported Turner and Taylor but voted in favor of Johnson.
The board then unanimously appointed Gretta Smith as their clerk. Smith has held this position for many years.
