The Town of Onancock has announced it is accepting applications for its newly implemented Adopt a Garden Program. The program allows individuals, civic organizations, schools, faith based organizations or businesses to adopt a garden within the Town of Onancock. The program was approved at the May 21, 2018 Town Council meeting.
The gardens to be adopted include the following locations: Custis Park, Town Square, Town Wharf, and the Town Entrance Sign. Other locations are also available for adoption. The individual or group adopting the garden would provide labor and tools, but the Town would still be responsible for purchasing plants, mulch and trees for the garden.
According to Bill Kerbin, Town Manager, “The program will promote civic engagement and community pride. The Town believes this program will be an excellent way for residents or nonresidents to have a sense of giving back to the community. We are very fortunate that we have residents and organizations in Onancock and the surrounding community who volunteer their time to make a program like this work.”
Anyone interested in adopting a garden can pick up an application at Onancock Town Hall or call 757-787-3363.
