Town Council and Mayors on the ballots in both counties Tuesday

While the focus is on tomorrow’s presidential election and the race for the second district congressional seat, local towns will also be electing mayors and town council members. In Accomack County, there are three contested races for mayor.

In Belle Haven, incumbent George Ludlow is being challenged by Lawrence Wilcox. In Chincoteague, incumbent mayor Author Leonard faces a challenge from Denise Bowden, while on Tangier, the incumbent mayor is opposed by Cameron Evans. Incumbent mayors in Hallwood, Keller, Onancock, Onley, Painter, Parksley, Saxis, and Wachapreague are all running unopposed. No one signed up to run for mayor in Melfa.

In Town Council races in Accomack County, Chincoteague has four candidates vying for three available seats: G. Wayne Taylor, J. Nick Howard, Sonia D. Watson-Conser, and Bill McComb Jr. Onancock has six candidates competing for three seats: Geffory Daking, Gregory Temple, Lisa Fiege, Maphis Oswald, Mary Clements, and Omar Grubb.

Perhaps the most hotly contested race in Accomack County is in Tangier, where eleven candidates are running for six seats on the Town Council: Tommy Eskridge III, Tracy K. Pruitt, Timothy Trumble, Sharon Haynie, Norwood C. Evans, Michael “Tiny” Parks, Kelley C. Whealey, Jan Marshall, Elizabeth Thornes, Bradley Thomas Jr., and Anna Pruit-Parks.

In Northampton County, Cheriton’s incumbent mayor Larry Lemond is being challenged by Stacy Sparrow, while the mayoral races in all other towns are uncontested. Cape Charles, Cheriton, and Exmore have contested Town Council races.

In Cape Charles, candidates Andy Bucholz, Carol Sabo, Clayton Newman, Ed Wells, Jo Bronson, John Rowe, Mark Usry, and Martin Beckett are running for six council seats. In Cheriton, Bary Downing, Ivan Pena, Jason Sparrow, Kandy Pena, Bo Lewis Sr., Sheila Traina, and Terri Lynn Tatem are seeking council positions.

In Eastville, Anne Sayers, Barbara Thomas, Bonny Lewis, Allen Philpott III, Diane Crockett, Eleanor Gordon, and Leslie Shiflett are competing for six available council seats. In Exmore, Chase Sturgis, Coby Metz, Thomas Lewis, are vying for three seats. Claudia Andrews is running to fill the seat councilman Doughty.Nassawadox has four candidates signed up for six seats.
