Three Broadwater Academy students were charged this week with making a threat to kill or do bodily injury to a school teacher on academy property in Exmore, Sheriff David Doughty of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office said in a prepared statement Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 12, and was investigated by the sheriff’s department and Broadwater staff, Doughty stated. The suspects are not being identified because they are juveniles. The three were removed from the school and charged with the alleged crimes.
“No imminent threat was determined is this incident,” according to a statement released by Head of School Fran Ryan.
Doughty said the case is still under investigation. Details about the alleged threat or how it was made were not disclosed.
“Safety is of paramount concern to Broadwater Academy and as this was a dynamic, evolving investigation, the School is grateful for the swift engagement of the Sheriff’s deputies and the collaborative nature of the investigations to keep all members of the school community safe,” Ryan’s statement continued. “The safety process of the School were followed and executed as designed to reach this safe result. The administration, faculty, and staff are standing by to offer appropriate support.”
Anyone with information about the case is “encouraged to contact” the sheriff’s office at 757-678-0458 or anonymously through the Tip411 app, Doughty added.
