At its quarterly meeting on February 20, 2025, the Virginia Aviation Board (VAB) approved $7,918,975.15 in funding for 31 projects across 20 General Aviation airports in the Commonwealth. The allocations aim to enhance airfield safety, infrastructure, and operational efficiency at airports that serve as vital links for business, tourism, and emergency services throughout Virginia.
Among the projects funded, Tangier Island Airport received $14,640 for critical airfield pavement maintenance, including crack sealing, seal coating, and remarking. This project, covering both design and construction phases, is part of the airport’s ongoing efforts to maintain safe and reliable operations for pilots and travelers to and from the remote island community.
The Virginia Aviation Board’s funding reflects its commitment to improving infrastructure at general aviation airports, which play a crucial role in supporting local economies, emergency response, and community connectivity. The VAB will convene again in May 2025 to review additional funding applications for future airport improvement projects across Virginia.
