The Accomack County Board of Supervisors got an update this week on plans for the Melfa Industrial Park.
County Administrator Mike Mason says a Market Planning Report is nearly complete. It was funded by a federal grant, with help from the Accomack–Northampton Planning District Commission.
The report lays out short-, mid-, and long-term steps to grow the site.
Near-term goals — through next year — include hiring a staff member to market both the Melfa Industrial Park and Wallops Research Park, building a new airport hangar, and applying for state funds to prepare the site for development.
By 2026 and 2027, the plan calls for federal funding for airport improvements, new training programs at Eastern Shore Community College, and outreach to international markets for local agriculture.
Looking long term, through 2032, it recommends building housing and amenities near the park, creating flexible space for startups and research, and investing in freight and road access to support industry.
The report also urges the county to apply for state “business-ready” site grants that could help cover studies, infrastructure, and utility extensions.
The marketing plan provides a detailed roadmap to attract tenants and promote the site.
