Supervisors approve additional funds for old Library renovation

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors authorized $1.1 million in additional funding for the renovation of the former Accomac Library, which is planned to become the new home of the County Building, Planning and Economic Development Office.

Recent procurement results revealed a significant budget shortfall for the project. According to a project budget worksheet, the funding gap is estimated at approximately $1.1 million.

County Administrator Mike Mason says staff has identified new funding sources that could cover the additional costs and allow the renovation project to move forward as planned. Those proposed funding sources are highlighted in the project budget documents provided to the Board.

Mason also cited the need for the project to help alleviate an office space shortage at the county building in Accomac.

The renovation is intended to repurpose the former library building for county operations and economic development services.

Board members voted Wednesday to  give the go ahead to proceed with the project utilizing the sources recommended by staff.
