A winter like storm affected the Eastern Shore Thursday. High winds and heavy rains resulted in the postponement of the launch of the Cygnus capsule to the International Space Station, schools closed early and a few events were either cancelled or postponed. Wind restrictions were up on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel most of the day with level 3 restrictions at around 5 p.m. Downed trees and branches either fully or partially blocked roads keeping VDOT busy. However power interruptions were few and far between with only 48 customers reported to be without power early in the evening. Gale warnings were posted for both the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Unofficial rain totals for the storm. Unofficially one inch of rain was reported in the central part of the Shore.
Fortunately predicted tidal and fresh water flooding failed to materialize.
Friday’s forecast calls for a big improvement with sunny skies and breezy conditions.
