
As the winter storm continues to impact all roads of travel throughout the Hampton Roads Area. The Virginia State Police continue to urge motorist to stay off the roadways and avoid all travel if possible.
Troopers have been working diligently to assist motorist throughout the winter storm. As of midnight Wednesday, February 19th, troopers have responded to 861 incidents, investigated 223 crashes, with 11 reported injuries. The majority of the incidents are of motorist who have spun out of controlling, driving too fast for weather conditions.
State Police urge motorist to slow down for road and weather conditions, use headlights for visibility, and give plenty of distance between yourself and other vehicles. Arrive alive and ensure seatbelts are worn. Be cognizant of ALL emergency vehicles; police, fire and rescue, VDOT, and tow truck drivers. Slow down or move over as emergency personnel assist others.
Motorist are reminded to keep a safe distance from snow plowers and allow VDOT to clear roadways safely. State Police would like to remind everyone that pedestrians are not allowed to be on the interstate which includes the areas of the on and off exit ramps of the interstate. Sledding is not only prohibited but extremely dangerous as vehicles attempt to maneuver on and off the roadways.
