
According to the Virginia State Police, a female pedestrian was killed Tuesday evening in an accident with a vehicle near Bloxom.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the pedestrian, thirty-five year old Marlene Marie Trakney, of the 17000 block Second Street, Nelsonia, Virginia, was in the left travel lane of south Route 13/Lankford Highway approximately fifty yards north of Mason Road, when she was struck. Trakney was struck by a 2018 Honda Odyssey van operated by David Arthur Peterson, sixty-three years old , of Greenville, North Carolina.
Mr. Peterson was traveling in his travel lane, the left southbound lane, when he struck Trakney. Trakney died upon impact from the injuries sustained. It is unknown why Trakney was in the travel lane of an un-lit area of Lankford Highway. At this time it is unknown if Trakney was under the influence. Peterson did not suffer injuries as a result of the crash.
