
Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred last night in Northampton County.
At approximately 6:16 p.m., troopers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident in the 23000 block of Fairview Road, just south of Seaview Drive. Upon arrival, officers found the male driver deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
According to preliminary findings, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and struck a ditch. The impact caused the rider to be ejected and thrown into a nearby light pole, resulting in fatal injuries.
The motorcycle was found to be unregistered and had an unidentifiable vehicle identification number (VIN). The driver, who was not wearing a helmet, has not yet been identified due to the severity of the injuries. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the individual’s identity and notify next of kin.
Speed has been identified as a contributing factor in the crash. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol played a role.
Virginia State Police will release additional information once the driver has been identified and family members have been notified.
