The Spanberger Inaugural Committee has announced that more than 25 groups and organizations from across the Commonwealth will participate in the 2026 Inaugural Parade, set to take place through Capitol Square in Richmond following the swearing-in of Virginia’s next governor.

The parade will begin immediately after the Inauguration Ceremony for Abigail Spanberger, who will become Virginia’s 75th governor. Organizers say the parade reflects the theme of the inauguration, “United for Virginia’s Future,” highlighting the people, professions, and communities that shape the Commonwealth.

“Our inaugural parade will be a celebration of all that makes Virginia strong,” Spanberger said in a statement, calling the lineup a showcase of talent and pride from every corner of the state. The parade will be announced by Andrew Freiden, morning meteorologist for Richmond television station 12 On Your Side.

Participants include a wide cross-section of Virginia life, beginning with the Virginia National Guard and the Virginia Military Institute Corps of Cadets. Public safety will be prominently represented by the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters and the Virginia Police Benevolent Association, with firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers participating from regions including Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Greater Richmond, the Roanoke Valley, and the Shenandoah Valley. Agencies represented include departments from James City County, Fairfax County, Norfolk, Alexandria, and the Virginia State Police, among others.

Education, youth leadership, and student organizations will also play a central role in the parade. Marching groups include the J.R. Tucker High School “Marching Tigers,” the Richmond Public Schools All-City Marching Band, and Norfolk State University’s Spartan “Legion” Marching Band. Teachers and school staff will march under the banner of the Virginia Education Association, alongside students from Virginia Career and Technical Education organizations such as Virginia FFA, DECA, HOSA–Future Health Professionals, FBLA, FCCLA, and the Technology Student Association.

Cultural, civic, and community organizations rounding out the parade include Girl Scouts from across Virginia, Virginia 4-H, the Virginia Pride coalition, Diversity Richmond, the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia, and Sportable. The parade will also feature NASA representatives from the Wallops and Langley facilities, Virginia State Park Rangers, heritage musicians from the Crooked Road Music Trail, Bollywood dancers from the Cultural Center of India, and mascots from nearly every public university in the Commonwealth.

Organizers say the diverse lineup is intended to reflect Virginia’s shared future while honoring the communities and institutions that define the state.
