For Jeanette Meekins, ‘home’ has always been more than just a place to live, it has been a sanctuary of second chances. She has been a tireless guardian for the Eastern Shore’s community cats, serving as the heartbeat of local rescues and a lifeline for the helpless. But on the Saturday after Christmas, the woman who provided shelter for homeless animals saw her own family’s home consumed by fire.

In the wake of such a devastating loss, many would look back at the ashes with heartbreak. But Jeanette is different. Guided by a profound faith and an unshakable spirit, she has chosen to keep her eyes fixed solely on the horizon, believing that with God’s grace, her family will rebuild even stronger than before.

This week, Kelley visited with Jeanette as she shared her perspective of resilience, faith and what is most important to her.

For years, Jeanette was answering the call for help. Now, the Eastern Shore is answering back. As she moves forward with a steadfast heart, our community’s love and support are helping a devoted rescuer rise from the ashes and move toward a bright new future.

The GoFundMe which has been set up to help can be found here.
