Nurses are the heart of healing, bringing compassion, skill, and resilience to every patient interaction. They are often the first to comfort, the last to leave, and the constant presence through every stage of care.
Beyond administering medication and monitoring vitals, nurses listen, advocate and uplift. Their intuition and empathy bridge the gap between clinical treatment and emotional support. In moments of crisis, they remain calm; in moments of joy, they celebrate alongside patients.
Hospitals may run on technology and procedures, but it’s nurses who keep the rhythm of healing alive. Their dedication makes recovery not just possible—but personal.
Since 1986, Bev Misuna, RN, BSN, has worked across many departments at Northampton Accomack Memorial Hospital which became Riverside Shore Memorial. She worked on the Medical Floor, in ICU, the Emergency Department, Operating Room and served as a Nursing Supervisor. She was a founding member of the PICC Team, advanced to Nurse Manager of the ICU, and eventually became Director of Nursing before retiring as a staff nurse.
This week, Kelley visited with Be as she reflected on some of her memories and her admiration for all nurses.
