Every parent dreams of watching their child grow up safe, happy and free to follow their passions. But, for some, that dream is shattered by a crisis that culminates after years of struggle: addiction.
This week Kelley visited with Hope Socha. Her son, Timothy, was full of life, laughter and promise. But he struggled with substance use disorder, something that millions across the country face.
What follows is not just a story of life and loss but of courage. In the wake of unimaginable heartbreak, Hope chose to speak out, to raise awareness, to fight stigma and to remind us that addiction is not a moral failure. It’s a health issue. A human issue.
Her voice is one of thousands but, today, we listen to hers. Because behind every overdose is dream forever changed. And behind every statistic is a name, a face, a family, friends, community and a love that never dies.
This is her journey. This is her advocacy. This is her son’s legacy.
August is Overdose Awareness Month. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, Eastern Shore Community Services Board can help. Call 757-442-3636.
Stay tuned to WESR as we will have details in the future on how you can donate to Timothy’s Gift, the 23 care packages Hope is going to send to current residents at Square One Rehab.
