In the quiet corners of Greenbush, a miracle unfolded to bring in the new year that reminded everyone exactly what “community” means.

When Chance, the Phillips family’s 4-year-old white Pit Bull, vanished into the winter chill, their life felt empty but an entire community stepped up to fill the void. It wasn’t just a search; it was a heartbeat shared by hundreds of neighbors, friends, and total strangers who refused to let a family lose their best friend.

Through hanging posters everywhere, announcing it on WESR radio and utilizing the Lost Paws ESVA Facebook page among other efforts, a movement was born. From Parksley up to Maryland and down to Cape Charles, people spread the word, eyes were peeled and hearts were open, proving that no dog is ever truly lost when a community decides to look together.

This week, Kelley visited with Christopher and Heather Phillips as they shared Chance’s story and offered their heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of people who supported them in countless ways throughout the journey.
