Shore History invites seafood enthusiasts and history lovers alike to the seventh annual Crab Crackin’ at Ker Place presented by Weichert, Realtors® Mason-Davis and Accomack Title & Settlement Inc., Saturday, August 16th. This signature fundraiser promises a feast of the Shore’s agricultural and aquacultural bounty as well as live music by a favorite Eastern Shore of Virginia band The Rhythm Section.
Shore History, formerly known as the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society, was established in 1957 to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Through events like Crab Crackin’, Shore History continues to foster a deeper appreciation for the region’s distinctive cultural and historical significance as well as raise funds for local preservation efforts.
Crab Crackin’ will take place at the non-profit’s headquarters, Ker Place, located at 69 Market Street in Onancock, on its picturesque front lawn. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m., with tickets priced at $75 each. Each ticket includes all-you-can-eat steamed crabs, steamed clams and barbecue with coleslaw, sweet corn; and a limited quantity of beer and wine. This year, the refreshing summer favorite Orange Crush will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased online at shorehistory.org.
Crab Crackin’ serves as a vital fundraiser for maintaining Hopkins & Bro. Store and the historic ticket office, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These landmarks are also a hub for community activities, with dining at Mallards at the Wharf and outdoor adventures with Burnham Guides.
Business sponsorships are available to support the event. Sponsors include: Pride Antifreeze & Coolant; Riverside Health; Delegate Rob Bloxom; Mallards at the Wharf; Carol & Butch Everett; Lynn Gayle; and Conrad Hall. Tony Edwards; Full Measure Oyster Co.; J.C. Walker Bros.; Tommy Hines and Shore Produce are some of this year’s in-kind sponsors.
