
Accomack and Northampton counties, along with the surrounding region, are bracing for the potential for severe weather today.
A cold front moving through the area today will bring scattered showers, with the forecast calling for anywhere between a half to 3/4 of an inch. While rainfall is expected to remain light, local residents can anticipate wet conditions through this afternoon into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service, damaging winds, tornadoes, and hail are possible. They have issued a Wind Advisory for Accomack and Northampton Counties in effect from 9 AM to 6 PM today. The Shore is expected to see wind gust as high as 47 mph. Gale Warnings are in effect from this morning through early Thursday. S-SE winds increasing to 20-25 kt later today. Gale Force south winds are expected Wednesday late afternoon and evening. Seas are predicted to be 5 feet on the bayside and 7-10 on the seaside.
The storm is predicted to begin affecting our area by mid-afternoon.
