It was a busy Halloween night for several mid-shore fire departments Thursday. At 5:39 p.m. units from Bloxom, Parksley, Tasley, Atlantic, Onancock, Saxis, New Church, DPS, and Forestry were dispatched to a garage fire on Lankford Highway in Nelsonia. They arrived to find a detached garage fully involved.
Firefighters remained on scene trying to extinguish the fire completely for several hours. There was a nearby residence and surrounding brush near the burning garage.
After leaving the scene firefighters were recalled at 11:48 p.m. and remained on the scene trying to control a brush fire ignited by the initial blaze. They remained there for several more hours.
Then at 1:28 a.m. there was a report of an accident at the Royal Farms intersection. Units broke away from the brush fire and responded to the accident. One individual was transported to the emergency room at Riverside Health by the Parksley EMS squad.
