Several of Sentara Health System’s highest ranking executives were at Eastern Shore Rural Health’s Onley Community Health Center on Thursday afternoon to announce a $250,000 matching grant from the Sentara Foundation for the Eastville Community Health Center.

Sentara Healthcare Senior Vice President Mary Blunt made the announcement:

The $250,000 grant is a matching grant, and Eastern Shore Rural Health CEO Nancy Stern was pleased to report that $71,334 of the $250,000 had already been matched.

Stern reacted to the announcement by Blunt:

Mary Blunt, Senior Vice President of Sentara Healthcare, makes the announcement at the Onley Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

The Eastville Community Health Center is expected to open in the fall of 2019. Stern announced work to the entrance of the facility from Route 13 will begin next week and, given no more weather set backs, ground on the official facility is set to be broken in June. The facility will replace the outdated Bayview and Franktown Community Health Centers, will be 24,000 sq. ft, will have Saturday hours, digital x-ray, expanded lab services, and an in facility pharmacy operated by the local business Rayfield’s Pharmacy. It will be located just south of the Eastville light.

Currently, $1,176,000 has been raised of the $2,000,000 million community portion of the campaign. It is hoped this matching grant from the Sentara Foundation will help achieve the community goal.
