Second man linked to January shooting death

    A second young Northampton man was linked Monday to the January shooting death of a Richmond resident on the Eastern Shore.

    Twenty-three-year-old Zahkye LeeJuan Gresham, with addresses in Colonial Beach and Bluebird Road in Cape Charles, was indicted by a Northampton Grand Jury on counts of being a principal in the second-degree in a first-degree murder, conspiring to murder in commission of a robbery, robbery, selling cocaine, use of a gun while distributing the drug, and displaying a gun in a threatening manner while committing or attempting to commit murder.

     The victim was 22-year-old Vantrell Ce’quez Williams, of Harwood Street in Richmond. The crimes occurred on Jan. 9, 2025. 

     Last month, 21-year-old Levontay Jumarion Johnson, of Seaside Road near Cape Charles, was arrested and charged with the same offenses.

     Police initially reported that a shooting occurred in Eastville at about 7:40 p.m. Officers found a male suffering from serious life-threatening injuries. It was reported that soon after that, another victim was taken to a convenience store in Nassawadox. The second victim was not identified. It is unclear which victim was at each location.

     In another case, 58-year-old Sampson Elliott Hodge Jr., with addresses in Dunn, N.C., and Pocomoke, Md., was indicted on an April 26 count of maliciously wounding a woman at the Quality Inn in Exmore. She was able to drive herself to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and reported that the suspect punched her in the back of the head and shoved her into a counter, splitting her bottom lip and knocking out her teeth. The two had been drinking, and he accused her of cheating.

     Twenty-eight-year-old Brent Russell Davis, of Back Mountain Road in Dillwyn, Va., was indicted on an April 18 count of strangling a woman who was 24 weeks pregnant. Court records state evidence will include photos of injuries to her neck, bruises on her arms, and hair that was pulled out of her head.
