Rocket Lab has announced a significant multi-launch agreement with an undisclosed commercial satellite constellation operator for its upcoming Neutron medium-lift rocket. Under the terms of the contract, Rocket Lab will carry out two dedicated missions starting in mid-2026 from its Launch Complex 3 at Wallops Island, Virginia. This agreement marks the beginning of what could be a long-term collaboration, with Neutron potentially tasked with deploying the operator’s entire satellite constellation.

The Neutron rocket, capable of carrying 13,000 kg to low Earth orbit (LEO), is designed to serve both commercial and government clients, providing a versatile and reliable launch option for constellation deployments, national security missions, and scientific payloads. The rocket is part of Rocket Lab’s broader strategy to position itself as an end-to-end space solutions provider, with plans to deploy its own satellite constellations in the future.

Rocket Lab’s founder and CEO, Sir Peter Beck, emphasized the importance of Neutron in breaking the current launch service monopoly, offering an affordable and reusable option that could help reduce costs and increase access to space. “We’ve changed the game before with Electron and HASTE, and Neutron is poised to do the same for constellation operators and national security,” Beck said.

The medium-lift Neutron rocket is expected to fill a growing market need, with over 10,000 satellites projected to require launch services by 2030, representing a $10 billion market opportunity. Neutron’s planned debut in 2025 also positions it to potentially join the U.S. Space Force’s National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Lane 1 program, which is a $5.6 billion contract supporting national security missions. If selected, Rocket Lab would become only the fourth launch provider accepted into this prestigious program.

Neutron is also a contender for missions under the U.S. Space Force’s OSP-4 program, a separate $986 million contract, further solidifying its place in the competitive space launch industry.
