Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor John Reid is currently visiting the Eastern Shore. He spent Friday on Chincoteague Island and stopped by the Blueberry Festival.
A former Richmond radio host and communications director for Senator George Allen, Reid said his decision to run was sparked by government overreach during the 2020 riots and COVID-19 shutdowns. “Civility is being lost,” he said during an interview on WESR. “We need leaders who understand business and listen to people.”
Reid outlined key issues in his campaign: defending Virginia’s Right to Work laws, lowering taxes, reducing housing regulations, and opposing biological males competing in girls’ sports. He also stressed the importance of the lieutenant governor’s role in breaking Senate ties, given the General Assembly’s narrow partisan split.
Running against Democrat Ghazala Hashmi, Reid said he aims to “work harder than anyone who’s run statewide” and is committed to meeting voters across all regions and backgrounds.
Reid will be visiting Tangier Island today.
