According to a report by County Administrator Mike Mason at Wednesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, the Accomack County Airport is a key economic driver for the Eastern Shore.
The study, released by the Virginia Department of Aviation and consulting firm Kimley-Horn, breaks down the airport’s total impacts for 2024. According to the data, the airport is directly responsible for creating fifty-nine jobs. Those positions generated more than two-point-five million dollars in wages for employees – including salaries and benefits.
Overall, the airport’s total economic activity including spending by visitors and businesses – reached over nine million dollars for the state’s economy this year. The report defines “total economic impact” as the overall value of the airport’s activity and all the spending ripples it creates. The figures represent a combined look at both on-airport activity and money spent by visitors off-airport.
