Remains of missing 22 year old found

According to Sheriff W. Todd Wessells, on August 3, 2025 at approximately 12:54 p.m. the Onancock Police Department requested the assistance of the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office in a missing persons investigation.

Upon deputies’ arrival they were advised that the missing person was identified as Miles Porter McIntyre, a 22 year old male of New Church.

McIntyre was last seen walking into the gravel transshipment point between 2 Onancock Wharf and 5 King Street around 12:00 a.m. on August 3, 2025.

While conducting a canvas of the area personal effects were found near a bulkhead. A water search and rescue was immediately requested, as ground searches continued.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. water operations and ground search operations ceased, with unsuccessfully locating McIntyre.

August 4, 2025 at approximately 7:30 a.m. a body was located in the water.

The body was identified as Miles Porter McIntyre. The deceased has been transported to the Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Onancock Police Department, Virginia Marine Resource Commission, Accomack Department of Public Safety, Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, Chesapeake Fire Department, and the U.S Coast Guard.
