
he Accomack County Health Department is alerting the public after a fox tested positive for rabies in the Temperanceville area.
Officials said the fox was confirmed positive for rabies on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the area of Saxis Road.
Anyone who may have had contact with the fox, or whose pet or livestock may have come into contact with it, is asked to contact the Accomack County Health Department at 757-787-5886 or Accomack County Animal Control.
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that attacks the nervous system. It is preventable in domestic animals through vaccination, but it is fatal to both animals and humans if left untreated.
Residents are reminded to avoid contact with wild animals and to make sure pets are current on rabies vaccinations.
