Overturned tractor trailer on Route 13 in Melfa blocks traffic

A tractor trailer carrying a load of cabbage went off the road and overturned in the ditch across from the Virginia State Police Barracks in Melfa. The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 Friday afternoon.

The scene was finally cleared by emergency personnel Friday evening around 7:00 PM.

The driver of the truck was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

According to reports at the scene, the tractor trailer had to be unloaded by hand. The trailer had to be emptied before it can be removed. 

Northbound traffic on Route 13 was down to one lane for most of Friday afternoon and stopped at times causing delays.
