Onancock Main Street is welcoming Cindy Mackey to its Board of Directors.
Mackey is a retired public relations and marketing professional who promoted commercial real estate, economic development, nonprofit organizations, and hospitality and travel accounts, during her career. She was president of Mackey Ink, and public relations director for Otto Design + Marketing.
Her experience includes many high-profile projects in Hampton Roads such as the opening of the Slover Library; the launch of The Main; Downtown Norfolk Council; Chrysler Museum and Glass Studio; APM Terminals Virginia; Virginia Beach Economic Development; Innovation Research Park @ ODU; and East Beach.
She also has worked on several projects on the Eastern Shore of Virginia including brand development for the Town of Onancock, an OMS initiative.
“Onancock has the potential to build on its distinctive downtown to attract new businesses and visitors, increase capital investment and grow jobs. I would like to be a part of its success,” said Mackey.
Inside Business awarded Mackey a Women in Business distinction in 2015. She graduated from Old Dominion University and lives in Onancock.
Mackey joins five other board members of OMS, which is part of the Virginia Main Street Program. OMS is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that works to develop and sustain Onancock’s historic downtown. OMS has supported high-impact downtown revitalization projects such as assessing the renovation of vacant commercial buildings, murals to enhance the downtown district, free façade design for businesses, tourism advertising and marketing support for businesses.
The majority of grants obtained by OMS for the benefit of the town don’t cover operating costs. Please consider getting involved. To read more about OMS or donate, go to ExperienceOnancock.com.
