Onancock Main St. welcomes new board member

Onancock Main Street (OMS) is pleased to welcome Javon Smith to its board.

Smith is a dedicated community member and nonprofit strategist with a passion for community service. His experience includes fundraising, volunteering, donating professional services, and event planning for local nonprofits.

Smith grew up in the Town of Onancock and continues to live in Onancock. As a proud, lifelong resident with a passion for community development, he looks to help develop new community partnerships, increase recreational activities, and add more diverse experiences to ensure the continued growth of the historic town of Onancock.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Virginia State University and has 14 years of experience at certified public accounting firms, specializing in business and individual taxation and tax planning. He is actively sitting for the certified public accountant exam.

Smith joins five other board members for OMS, which is part of the Virginia Main Street Program. OMS is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that works to preserve and revitalize Onancock’s historic downtown. As examples, OMS has supported high-impact downtown revitalization projects such as assessing the feasibility of renovating vacant commercial buildings, murals to enhance the downtown district, tourism advertising and marketing support for businesses.
