The Onancock Elks Lodge hosted its inaugural First Responder Appreciation Day on May 31, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The event aimed to raise funds for the 19 Fire and Rescue Departments across the Eastern Shore and successfully brought in $49,400, which will be distributed among the departments.
Festivities included Eastern Shore Fire and Rescue competitions, a cornhole tournament, a tug-of-war, and a fire prevention house for children to explore.
Awards were presented for Firefighter of the Year, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, and EMS Responder of the Year for both 2024 and 2025.
- Firefighter of the Year: Bryan “Daff” Daffin (awarded posthumously; accepted by his wife, Candy Daffin)
- Law Enforcement Officer of the Year: Chief Angelo DiMartino, Exmore Police Department
- EMS Responder of the Year (2024): Walker Fluhart
- EMS Responder of the Year (2025): Patty Drewer Gough
