Mary Benaknin joins Onancock Main Street Board

Onancock Main Street (OMS) has announced the appointment of Mary Benaknin to its board of directors.

Since relocating to Onancock in September 2021, Benaknin has become an active member of the local business community. She is the owner of the Blarney Stone Pub at 10 North Street and is currently launching a new venture just across the street at 9 North Street.

“Mary’s enthusiasm for Onancock is contagious, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to the Onancock Main Street board,” said OMS President Lisa Fiege. “We look forward to the energy she brings to our team, especially her unique expertise as a business owner.”

Benaknin brings significant experience as a multi-business owner, offering valuable insights into starting and managing successful ventures. Her knowledge is expected to support collaboration among local businesses and contribute to ongoing revitalization efforts.

“I’m excited to contribute to the revitalization taking place in our town,” said Benaknin.

She joins a board of eight members serving OMS, which operates as part of the Virginia Main Street Program. OMS is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to preserving and developing Onancock’s historic downtown. Its initiatives have included assessing vacant commercial buildings for renovation, creating downtown murals, offering free façade design services, and supporting local businesses through marketing and tourism promotion.
